Laura M. Babcock
Laura is a creative technical leader experienced in
process and product development of biomaterials
from sustainable feed stocks. She founded LMB
Solutions Partnership, LLC to apply her >20 years
experience in the chemical industry to assist
companies in overcoming technical barriers to
business success. She excels in establishing
targeted programs to reach technology driven growth
and cost improvement business objectives and is
highly effective in forming technical teams from
diverse resources and leading them to achieve
target program results.
As a Lead Chemist and Program Manager at
NatureWorks LLC, Laura focused her expertise in
Sustainable Technology Development. She defined
critical process variables to improve color, haze, and
product stability for bio-based polylactic acid (PLA)
contributing to avoidance of major capital
expenditures. She lead efforts to improve impact
resistance of PLA, introducing a new product platform
to retain existing packaging business and open
additional opportunities. She engaged suppliers to
develop additives specifically tailored to meet PLA
application requirements by demonstrating new
opportunity in biomaterials markets.
Laura has held various technology positions at
Hercules Incorporated and Air Products and
Chemicals where her expertise included process
chemistry and cost improvement, hydrocarbon resins,
polymer formulation, polymer stabilization, and flame
retardants.
She holds a BS in Chemistry from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute and a PhD in Chemistry from the
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
