Jack Miller, Principal Consultant, Market‐Intell, is a
veteran of more than thirty years in paper and
packaging.

In February 2005, he founded Market‐Intell, a market
intelligence consultancy, and from September, 2005
to April, 2009 Jack was Senior Consultant North
America for Pira International.

Jack has conducted market research and consultancy
in paper and paperboard barrier packaging, coated
paper markets, gift wrap markets, new product
development for a specialty paper and paperboard
manufacturer, markets for luxury goods packaging,
and sustainability in paper, print and packaging. Most
recently, Jack co‐authored two major studies,
Sustainable Print in a Dynamic Global Market and
Global Trends in Printing and Writing Papers for
PRIMIR . He also led Pira’s Renewable Packaging
Materials Network to explore opportunities and
issues with biopolymers.

Jack is the former Director of Market Intelligence with
Domtar where he developed strategic plans,
conducted analysis of paper industry trends, and
directed market research and benchmarking studies.
Jack created and managed  customer advisory
councils, and played a key role in strategic planning,
customer segmentation, and CRM (Customer
Relationship Management) efforts. He also held
positions as Regional Sales Manager, Territory
Manager, and Product Line Manager.

Jack has written for the
PaperTree Letter, Paper 360,
Canadian Printer, Printing Impressions and Package
Printing.
He has presented on sustainability at On
Demand, SustainCom World, and PIA/GATF, and at
IntertechPira conferences Biodegradable Plastics in
Packaging Applications, Specialty and Technical
Papers, Ink on Paper, and Sustainability in Packaging.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics
from The College of the Holy Cross and has done
graduate studies in Statistics and Finance.

Jack's hobbies include writing and travel, and he has
recently combined these two interests in his column
on business travel:
